Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN)
Overview
Ansible Government Solutions, LLC (Ansible) is currently recruiting multiple Medical Surgical Registered Nurses to support the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center located at 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030. Nurses may also be asked to provide services at Community Based Outpatient Centers (CBOC). Multiple shift schedules are available. Responsibilities
- Perform head-to-toe assessments, develop and update care plans, and document in electronic medical records.
- Assess and act on changes in patient condition.
- Administer medications (including IV), blood products, and tube feedings.
- Insert and manage IV and central lines, including PICC lines.
- Perform wound care, tracheostomy care, ventilator care, and suctioning.
- Measure and monitor vital signs, pain, and hemodynamics.
- Coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Provide patient/family education on health, diagnoses, and medications.
- Respond to emergencies and assist in crisis situations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and a safe care environment.
- Adhere to VA and Joint Commission standards, including medication administration, restraint usage, and hazardous waste disposal.
- Use Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) with 100% accuracy.
- Complete required nursing assessments and documentation within set timeframes.
- Report incidents of abuse or safety concerns immediately.
- Provide clinical oversight to LPNs, Nursing Assistants, Health Technicians, and Intermediate Care Technicians.
- Communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members regarding patient status.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Clear CPRS clinical alerts daily.
- Perform Braden Scale and Fall Risk Assessments.
- Report and document patient safety incidents using the Joint Patient Safety Report (JPRS) system.
- Comply with PPE and hand hygiene protocols.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license from a U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE).
- Credentialed through VetPro.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (for ICU, Stepdown, and Emergency Room).
- Negative TB test within the past 12 months.
- Pre-employment drug screening.
- At least 1 year of recent (within the past 5 years) critical care nursing experience.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the job (no restrictions).

All candidates must be able to:
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Lift up to 20 lbs
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
