Medical Records Technician - Release of Information
Overview
Ansible Government Solutions, LLC (Ansible) is seeking multiple Medical Records Technicians Release of information positions to work with us in support of the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System located at 1901 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Temple, TX 76504. The schedule is typically Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Duties and Responsibilities
- Process, safeguard, and release Protected Health Information (PHI) and other medical records in compliance with federal laws (HIPAA, Privacy Act, 38 U.S.C. 7332) and VA policies.
- Review and validate all requests for medical information to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Clarify incomplete requests and query requestors as needed.
- Accurately process release requests, ensuring only the minimum necessary PHI is disclosed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security of all records handled.
- Document all release activities in VA systems (VistA, CPRS, eROI+), establishing a complete audit trail.
- Communicate with patients, providers, and third parties regarding information requests.
- Collaborate with the Privacy Office, Health Information Management (HIM) staff, and other departments to ensure standardized workflows.
- Participate in quality assurance and compliance reviews, including bi-monthly meetings with supervisors.
- Complete all ROI requests within mandated timeframes (routine requests within 20 business days, urgent requests same day).
- Properly categorize requests (legal, insurance, patient, continuity of care, etc.) and ensure 95% or greater accuracy.
- Stay current with updates to HIPAA, Privacy Act, VA directives, and relevant case law.
- Complete all mandatory VHA privacy, security, and compliance training annually.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of one year full-time experience as a Release of Information technician or Health Information Technician performing ROI functions in a medical setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal privacy laws (HIPAA, Privacy Act, 38 U.S.C. 7332) and VA policies (VHA Directive 1605.01).
- Proficiency with VA ROI-related software (VistA, eROI+, CPRS) and ability to navigate paper and electronic patient records.
- Completion of VA-required proficiency training (HIPAA, Privacy, Computer Security, Privacy and Release of Information training).
- U.S. citizenship and proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to meet accuracy (≥95%) and timeliness standards for processing requests.

- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

All candidates must be able to:
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Lift up to 20 lbs
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
