Certified Phlebotomy Technician
Overview
Ansible Government Solutions, LLC (Ansible) is currently recruiting Phlebotomists to support the Columbia VA Healthcare System located at 6439 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC 29209. The shift schedule has various shifts available, Monday-Friday, including weekends and holidays. Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples using the vacutainer blood collection system or syringe with needle/butterfly when necessary, following established procedures for correctly identifying patients and collecting appropriate specimens for requested tests
- Collect and process urine samples for both routine and timed collections, correctly instructing patients in the collection and handling of specimens
- Accession all specimens collected by entering order numbers, verifying correct tests were drawn, recording collection time, and properly affixing computer labels to collection tubes
- Deliver collected blood and urine samples to appropriate departments at determined times
- Answer tube station requests; process and deliver samples to specific departments
- Maintain phlebotomy and accessioning areas in a clean and organized condition at all times
- Rotate all supplies to ensure expired tubes are promptly discarded
- Conduct periodic inventory of phlebotomy and other supplies, restock upon receipt, and inform clinic management of low inventories
- Process and package specimens for transport to parent facility or local contractor according to receiving facility instructions
- Utilize computer systems for patient data management and specimen tracking
- Adhere to strict safety and infection control procedures at all times
- Provide patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork and offering cordial guidance and assistance
- Perform proper veni-puncture, finger stick procedures, and other CLIA 88 waived tests using appropriate techniques
Qualifications
- Ability to successfully undergo a government sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required)
- Evidence of at least 24 months’ experience as a phlebotomist OR a national or state recognized certification as a phlebotomist
- Three letters of recommendation from lab supervisors, clinical teachers, or physicians attesting to clinical skills (must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address, and signature, written within the preceding three years)
- Healthcare Worker Certificate with statement from healthcare worker's physician or physical examination report (within 60 days prior to contract start) indicating freedom from mental or physical impairments
- Familiarity with medical terminology, hospital terminology, and laboratory procedures
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols
- Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor
- Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred
All candidates must be able to:
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Lift up to 20 lbs
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
