Responsibilities
- Provide therapeutic medical physics services to radiation oncology patients.
- Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists on treatment planning and radiation delivery.
- Support advanced treatment modalities including:
- IMRT
- IGRT
- SRS
- SRT
- SBRT
- VMAT
- HDR/LDR brachytherapy
- Participate in peer review of all treatment plans before treatment initiation.
- Review and modify treatment plans throughout the course of therapy as needed.
- Attend and participate in weekly peer review conferences and chart rounds.
- Design, optimize, and evaluate radiation treatment plans.
- Perform radiation dose calculations and monitor unit (MU) calculations.
- Ensure independent review of treatment calculations.
- Generate dose-volume histograms (DVHs).
- Define organs at risk (OARs) and dose constraints.
- Validate treatment planning system accuracy.
- Model radiation beams and oversee treatment planning software functionality.
- Perform and oversee:
- Daily QA
- Monthly QA
- Annual QA
- Machine calibrations
- Radiation safety testing
- Calibrate all available radiation beams.
- Conduct periodic equipment performance evaluations.
- Maintain compliance with ACR, ASTRO, AAPM, NRC, and VA standards.
- Coordinate annual TLD measurements and third-party calibration reviews.
- Maintain documentation for all QA activities
- Support radiation oncology treatment planning systems and connected equipment.
- Monitor:
- ARIA Record & Verify
- Eclipse Treatment Planning System
- SRS/SRT/IGRT systems
- Manage system updates, backups, troubleshooting, and connectivity issues.
- Act as liaison with facility informatics staff.
- Master's degree in Medical Physics or related field
- Board Certification in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR)
- Minimum 2 years continuous therapeutic medical physics experience within the last 3 years
- 2 years QA procedure experience
- 1 year experience in an ACR-accredited radiation oncology environment
- 1 year experience with Varian Linear Accelerators (IX and Trilogy)
- 1 year IGRT experience including Cone Beam CT
- 1 year Eclipse Treatment Planning System experience
- 1 year ARIA Record & Verify System experience
- Experience independently planning:
- 2D/3D Conformal
- IMRT
- VMAT
- SRS
- SRT
- SBRT
- 1 year IMRT QA experience using MapCheck I/II or equivalent
- 1 year Siemens Somatom CT Simulator experience (or equivalent)
- Experience in a healthcare system with ACR or APEx certification preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Proficiency in computer systems and networking related to radiation oncology
- Ability to pass a government background check and complete required VA training
All candidates must be able to:
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Lift up to 20 lbs
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
